Every trip starts with a full preparation day in the Netherlands. A day outdoors together, so Jay can tailor the trip to you and you know who you’re heading into the wilderness with.
Why this day
No strangers at the trailhead.
In the wilderness you spend five days far from anywhere, with one guide. You’ll want to know who that is, and your guide wants to know you. That’s why, once you’ve paid your deposit, we start with a full day outdoors together in the Netherlands.
Jay gets to know you and sees how you handle yourself outside; you get to see how he works. He uses that day to set how demanding the trip will be. The route itself is decided by the weather.

The day itself
A day outdoors, somewhere in the Netherlands.
We spend a day outdoors getting to know each other, so Jay can judge which trip suits you. You’ll get a feel for how he explains and guides, and you can ask him anything about the trip.
It’s a full day, from 10:00 to 17:00, at a beautiful forest location. Together we go through packing your backpack, make a fire and practise navigating.

We talk about what you’re looking for and whether YAD is a good fit.

Shape and book the trip
We look at experience, fitness, season, length and how challenging you want it to be. Your booking is confirmed with a 30% deposit.

Preparation day
A full day outdoors together in the Netherlands.

To Norway
You travel to Kristiansand; from there it is about an hour and a half to Setesdal. Jay is usually there already.
