Which data we process, why, how long we keep it and what your rights are. Last updated: October 2026. The Dutch version is leading.
1. Who we are
Your Adventure Department (YAD) is a trade name of Jay Jansen Wilderness School & Expeditions. We are responsible for processing your personal data under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

2. Which data we process and why

3. How long we keep data
- Health data: no longer than six months.
- Invoice and booking data: seven years, as required by Dutch tax law.
- Contact and enquiry data: no longer than twelve months after the last contact.
- Kit list sign-up: until you unsubscribe.
- Analytics cookies: no longer than one year.
4. Who we share data with
We do not sell or trade personal data. We only share data with parties that help us provide the service, with whom we have a processing agreement where required:
- Hosting of this website and email: Strato AG (Germany)
- Email tool for the kit list mailing: Mailchimp (Intuit Inc., United States)
- Google Ireland Ltd. for Google Analytics 4, only with your consent
- Payments: through the web order system (WooCommerce) of Jay Jansen Wilderness School & Expeditions on jayjansen.nl, with the payment providers connected there. See also the jayjansen.nl privacy statement
Health data is not shared with third parties unless required by law or necessary for your safety in an emergency.
5. Transfers outside the EU
Some providers, such as Google and Mailchimp, (also) process data in the United States. This only happens with appropriate safeguards, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses.
6. Security
We take appropriate technical and organisational measures, including an encrypted connection (SSL) on all pages and restricted access to health data.
7. Cookies and analytics
This site does not place analytics or marketing cookies without your consent. We only remember your cookie choice in your browser. If you consent, we load Google Analytics 4, which places cookies (such as _ga) to measure visits, kept for no longer than one year. We do not use Analytics for advertising.
You can change your choice at any time through or the button at the bottom of every page.
The fonts are loaded from this website itself. No data is sent to Google or other parties for this.
8. Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify and erase your data (except where a legal retention period applies), to restrict processing, to data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interest. You can withdraw consent at any time. Email jay@youradventuredepartment.com.
If you disagree with how we handle your data, you can file a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).
